In the city -- there are a couple draws for you and your tots. The Alster is a great promenade, and be sure to get a "Rollmops" -- pickled herring on a stick, like a fish lollipop. They're delicious. And, the bustling harbor with it's big ships and even bigger equipment will impress many youngsters.
Head to the North Sea for some beach time, it's a short drive away. Or, see the Wattensee, a wide flat coastal stretch where the tide runs in and out over hundreds of yards.
If you want inland: try the Altes Land, picturesque farmland with fat sheep and happy cows, sure to please your little one.
Throw the kid a real bone and take them to Legoland, just across the Danish border. You should be able to leverage a good deal of kiddie appreciation and behavior out of it.
